Jerusalemite.net is the “definitive English-language culture guide to the center of the world.” Created by co-publishers and co-editors Harry Rubenstein and Ben Jacobson, Jerusalemite.net provides those culturally-interested in the real Jerusalem with a blog, maps, event listings, and city guides that go deeper into the Old City than other, lesser, mere travel guides.
The city maps, guides, and event listings are certainly helpful, but what makes Jerusalemite.net stand out is its blog.
With entries with titles such as “Streetballin’ in Jerusalem,” “Jerusalem Art: It’s Eeeeeeevil,” and “Get Out Your Graggers, it’s Time for Purim,” this site serves up the goods in a funky, off-beat style that keeps readers coming back for more. Of course, there is the more conventional fare, including coverage of traffic and street building concerns, the top five best views of the Old City, and how to beat the punishing Israeli summer heat, but even the coverage of the most mundane topics make me grin: “Sure, the relative height of the Judean Hills and the occasional mountain breeze means that during the hot months Jerusalem residents suffer less than their compatriots in the Levantine bayou that is summertime Tel Aviv - but when it's 90 degrees and there hasn't been a cloud in the sky since March and the desert sun is glaring fiercely off the glowing white Jerusalem stone, the difference can seem at times to be mostly academic.” |
