The Children’s International Film Festival presents many films that are both creative and entertaining, with the goal to expose the realm of cinema to the younger generation. Many international visitors will enjoy several films including “Boys,” “The Mage Tree,” “Space Chimps 2,” “Toy Story 3,” and “Tales for Tiny Tots.” Along with the entertaining films, workshops will be available such as a children’s opera, a magician’s school, and caricatures. Neta Schahar, a beautiful actress and teacher, will hold a workshop specifically on dramatic art. A team from the Animetzia Studio will lead three workshops that explore animation techniques and films. The films and workshops will be a great introduction to many to the world of cinema, art, and overall media culture.
The film festival is a great way for children and adults to view international films in order to gain a cultured view of cinema. From France, Eleanor’s Secret by Dominique Monfrey will present an animation describing the life of a seven-year-old who is unable to read. From the Netherlands, the Mini-Witch by Fuschia will describe the experience of a seven-year-old at witch school after hatching from an egg. From Israel, Land of Genesis by Moshe Alpert will explore Israel’s nature and wildlife. The festival also makes sure to target the older audience as well, by incorporating movies that reflect childhood, including classics such as Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro, Pelle the Conqueror by Bille August, and Whale Rider by Niki Caro.
This is the first year that the films will be judged and prizes will be awarded. There will be five film professionals and seven local children who will make up a panel of judges to evaluate the films at the Children’s International Film Festival. At the end of the festival, children will have a chance to speak to those who worked on the films, including both the filmmakers and the actors within the shows. The Children’s International Film Festival will take place at the Jerusalem Cinematheque on 11 Hebron Road.
